BUILD AND REBUILD

I read a preview of Brenna Twohy's book named Shallowtail.

In the first poem the last verse read

"... As if survival could ever be delicate.
As if we haven't been chewing rocks for generations.
As if we haven't been rebuilding our own bones."

As I was reading along these lines, the image of my past, my present, and my mind’s sketch of my future came to me. I thought of what Twohy said " as if survival could ever be delicate ". No, never. Then again for a moment I thought, is this true for all humans? Maybe or maybe not.

It made me think of how we have been taking whatever the previous generations have offered and mostly misusing instead of wisely dealing with what they offered, let alone improvise the gift. It's easy to say and feel like this, but practically, we all know, that we haven't received so much that's worth our while or maybe that's what we choose to believe after chewing rocks for generations.

And just as Brenna mentions how we have been rebuilding bones, it makes me think if not us, our self-loathing-selves who else is there to help us survive. We all need help, the foundation to continue to build and rebuild. Though for all the generations that have passed and that are yet to survive — it wasn't easy or delicate but we all live life and we will continue to do so.
